The sacrifices of the NCAA Tourney have been made and the battles have been fought. Now, the dust has settled and we have our four combatants for the NCAA Frozen Four.
Union College Dutchmen, ranked # 3 in the country by USCHO , were the ECAC regular season champion and the ECAC playoff champ. Along their path to get to the Frozen Four, they beat RPI, Colgate and Harvard to win the ECAC playoff championship and defeated Michigan State 3 to 1 and UMass Lowell 4-2 in the NCAA tourney. They will square off against Ferris State in the Frozen Four.
Ferris State Bulldogs, ranked # 9 in the country by USCHO, were the regular season champs of the CCHA. They had two very close games to get to the Frozen Four. They defeated Denver 2-1 and Cornell 2-1. They will challenge Union for the spot in the NCAA National Championship game.
Boston College Eagles, ranked # 1 in the country by USCHO, were the Hockey East regular season champs and the Hockey East playoff champs. They defeated Massachusetts, Providence and Maine to earn their trip to the NCAA Tournament and then beat Air Force 2-0 and Minnesota Duluth 4-0 in their journey to the Frozen Four. They will battle with Minnesota in their Frozen Four game.
University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, ranked # 6 in the country by USCHO, were the WCHA regular season champs. They were the outright winners of the WCHA MacNaughton Trophy. They drew Boston University in their first game of the NCAA Tournament and defeated BU 7-3. In their second game, they beat North Dakota 5-2 and earned their spot in the Frozen Four. They will face Boston College.
The Frozen Four weekend / Tournament was an awesome weekend of hockey. In the first semifinal, Ferris State edged out Union 3 - 1 and in the second semifinal, Boston College beat Minnesota 6 - 1 to set up the final game between Boston College and Minnesota. In the final game, Boston College lived up to their team name as the mighty Eagles soared to defeat Minnesota 6 - 1 to win the National Championship.
Congratulations to Boston College on winning the National Championship. Congratulations to all the teams on a great season.
